Now look at this map of former slave states in the United States. A look at the civil war states is very informative.

You see more clearly here with this map of the Civil War states. Red is the Confederate states and light blue are the slave states staying in the Union. The similarity and its meaning is pretty clear. The GOP today, the party of Lincoln, has become the party of the old confederacy
